GammelGura 45. An old man who required a lot of cracking in the lid got a special "X" because the lid is so fragile. Something in between "ladder" ribbing and "X" ribbing. The stable was a "mess" with sticky carpenter's glue and holes in the lid under the stable.
It took a long time to fix it. Both the lid and the bottom had shrunk properly, put new wood in the lid and a wider center seam in the bottom. When I would glue back the bottom it was still too narrow on the wide round. Glued it without using force, then I milled an extra rosewood strip around the large round. Was good in the end!
Tried to reuse the old ebony board, but it all ended with failure and the throat was set again this time with a new ebony board. Moved over the daughters from the old board. A protective plectrum protective plastic on the lid and a guitar strap knob were also fitted.
Stretched with Newtone Heritage 0.12, but the 0.51 E string was changed to a 0.59 string when played as drop D. As expected, a clear modern sound from the half x. Sounds good but different tone compared to that of a regular ladder bracing (which I really dig!). Love the patina on this one!
