It's been a long time since I wrote a blog post. The reason for that is that I spent much of last year on things other than GammelGura. I basically went down to half-time in the premises. A lot of that time in the premises was also spent finishing more or less advanced repairs that have accumulated over the years. Despite that, there have been a number of finished GammelGura that have not been presented on my blog.
My newfound interest in playing and composing my music and working with the home studio were some of the things I devoted myself to instead of the GammelGura job. Old songs have been picked out and arranged, the lyrics have ended up in my master binder. About 200 of the approximately 400 songs from the past have been tidied up so far. I have also spent time getting all my stuff in order, every drawer in the apartment has been emptied and sorted, every closet cleared of everything unnecessary. A few trips to the recycling station later, I have both better order and more space for new stuff. New expensive hardware has been purchased for my home studio, which now feels ready for recording demos of my songs. A new serious recording with Roger & the Rockets is also planned in the future.
Still more time-consuming has been getting the hard drive in order, several computer crashes have not been handled properly over the years. Duplicates in many folder copies needed to be cleaned out. A whole ICA case of CDs with various backups and other things has been gone through and everything of value has been saved. The same with floppy disks and cassette tapes. I still have a lot of work left to do with sorting the files before I'm done with that part, including all the material from the 5 CDs that have been produced over the years.
Now I'm back in the venue again in good old style, the goal is to shorten the long queue with GammelGura from the time before when I never turned down new orders - which I should have done! Right now there is a stop to orders until the queue is down to a few GammelGura. Hopefully I will be able to finish two GammelGura a month during the year, that's the goal anyway. It takes longer to do the renovations now compared to when I started, there are more steps to do and I am more meticulous. Right now I'm working on four GammelGura that are halfway done. Some were not in the queue for various reasons - one, for example, will become my local guitar when the previous one was sold (as they often become when they are auditioned when I have visitors to my venue). But from now on, the date of the order will be the one that applies. Since I am the only guitar repairman in town now, there will also be some local small jobs with repairs. But I will refuse all time-consuming repairs, the focus is on the GammelGura queue.
I'm also going to start the blog again, there's a lot of unpublished material. Among other things, the queue needs to be reviewed, I haven't updated it in six months. The waiting room will be updated once the winter has passed.
It's fun to write and I miss the contact with the readers, but at the same time even fun jobs are a job. Well. My biggest challenge is probably getting up in the morning on time, once I'm in the room it's rolling along at a good pace. We'll see if I can keep my New Year's resolution and get my thumbs out this year 🙂
