GammelGura 0018 was a Levin tailpiece guitar from 1926. It is unusually large, a full 102 cm long. Levin called the size of the body "harp-shaped", a larger body was made on guitars with double necks and extra bass strings that were called harp guitars at the turn of the century. The guitar was in pretty poor condition, the side cracked both at the neck attachment and the bottom block. It had also been repaired in a less than good way, which meant that I had to repaint the cover. Also many cracks in the lid. Learned more about how to paint with strong color 🙂
It sounds very good for being a tailpiece guitar, the large body provides the bass needed. A small audio clip can be listened to here. Recorded with the K&K mic in the middle and a stereo pair of Microtech Gefell small-diaphragm condenser mics directed on either side of the sound hole and left-right in the sound recording. No oddities otherwise (the K&K mic inside the body gives a little extra "space" to the sound, it's a little drier acoustically). High volume!
Think it is very nice with its Christmas red color, tailpiece with engraving and black plaque protection!
One of the nicest Levin colors I've seen! Nice job as always Roger!
Thanks for that Bert! They've got some of that red Levin from the late 20s. The browns from the mid-30s are also a favorite 🙂
