Eco 995 1964

Has not been diligent with updates in the last month. The reason is that I mostly worked with old commitments and repairs. Have had time for some on the ongoing batch as well. The free time has been spent digging up old songs and translating from English to Swedish. And watch the amazingly fine picture quality in the new HD TV and all the gold diggers, antique hunters and car repairers who house the new channels that were in the ComHem socket in the wall!

One project was to get an old cool electric bass called Fender. A wreck in need of TLC was purchased from the USA, an Eko 995 from 1964. The instrument itself was in good condition, straight neck and only a few lacscracks. 7.25 ″ radius on the fretboard. All electronics were severely corroded, the tuning screws, on the other hand, were in surprisingly good condition. Maybe the body and neck were separated and the body was kept moist? Stables and string holders were missing.

Rebanded, got a copy of a Höfner string holder and made an adjustable stable. But the big project was to solder in two new knobs, luckily both mics were OK. Sour work to work with the strings and steel wire through the small holes in the lid to loosen and assemble. The steering wheels were also really rusty. Swore a few rhymes… but got good in the end 🙂

Moss grew on the pots…

Three modes, each with slightly different tones. The fourth zero position on the cool selector dial is off. Impressive hum-free to be single coil, plus even volume between strings. The necklace is a bit microphone and you hear nail scratches. Stretched with cut strings. Some nice pictures on the base!
