Apprentice in the room

One week of hard work in the room resulted in two completed Old Gurus. Got good help from my apprentice Farre (Faruk Ohranovic), we worked well together. This is the second time I have had a visit to the room where I teach what I know about how to renovate an old "wreck" from the inside out.

It was also educational for me, with two whole processes ready in a short time you get an overview and learn new ways to make things better and more efficient. You also get the chance to make new educational mistakes that you will never do again!

We just had to finish with both objects that Farre had with him, one particularly fine Levin parlor from 1913 and another brown with floating stables from 1930. Both became fine and sounded very good when they were ready. The one on the left from 1913 and the one on the right from 1930.

New grip board, new adjustable stall, carbon fiber rod in the neck. New ribs and new tuning screws in a complete Gammel Gura. A K&K mounted.

A finer Levin parlor from 1913. I have seen three Levin with the same type of varnish and flame birch as this one. The color is difficult to describe, shimmering yellow-green gray is perhaps the closest you come. New grip board, new replica steel, carbon fiber rod in the neck. New ribs in one complete Gammel Gura. A K&K mounted.

Two complete Gammel Gura in a week was a bit of a lot of work I realize now, we had to really struggle hard. Better to aim for a complete Gammel Gura and a repair / neck replacement / re-dressing of a second item. If anyone is interested in something similar, just get in touch.
