Sorted out some 80 old mechanics and cleaned them all with my ultrasonic cleaning. There are both mandolin and guitar mechanics in the collection. Everyone has been replaced for one reason and that is that no one is as tight and gap-free as a newly purchased mechanic. Partly, of course, because they are old and worn, but also because they have never been as glitch-free as the ones they make nowadays.
But they exist and many are good enough to work great if you don't have too many requirements. I sells those that are well functioning for SEK 300 and those that are broken or very loose as a spare part for SEK 50 the pair. There are several different dimensions between the poles, measure carefully between the center of the two outer gears (or post holes) if you want to get some better original screws for your old guitar. To match it I have to get a picture, and with some luck I find one similar in the pile!
