GG191, Levin 1926

Posted by Roger Häggström on May 31, 2022, 11:00 am

The week before the fair in Umeå, I realized that I needed an GammelGura to sell. I chose one of all the parlor guitars I have hanging on the wall in the apartment, a Levin 1926 in good condition so as not to have to spend a lot of time on repairs. The old parlor model with the cut head was on its way out…

Apprentice with Levin and tenor

Posted by Roger Häggström on May 30, 2022, 9:16 pm

Recently had an apprentice in the room. It was a nice week as usual, this time we worked with a Levin parlor from 1912 and next to a newer Orpheum tenor guitar from around the 1950s. I did not take many pictures while we worked (the apprentice took all the more!), But I can report the end result. Levinen, GammelGura 190, became…

For sale: Old GammelGura

Posted by Roger Häggström on May 25, 2022, 10:15 pm

Unique in shape too, all indications are that it was built by a solitary builder and not in a conveyor belt. It comes with a used…

Have gone through the instruments in the "Waiting Room", objects used for an Old Gura have been cleared away and new candidates have taken their place. Several old Levin parlor guitars and a harp guitar are among the newcomers.

News about Söderman

Posted by Roger Häggström on May 17, 2022, 7:11 pm

Gottfrid Söderman is the only local builder in the area with large production before 1930. Here in Örnsköldsvik, there are often Söderman lutes for sale at flea markets and auctions, but his instruments are found throughout Sweden. Some of the lutes are dated and sometimes there is a poem or similar written in pencil inside, especially on the…

Erlewine neck jig

Posted by Roger Häggström on May 14, 2022, 6:51 pm

It's been a while since I wrote on the blog, mostly due to a newly awakened interest in playing and the accounting lump in my throat. Now it has been recorded and the accounts have been submitted. Always something! By the way, the recording will be a good demo when it is ready for one of my GammelGura, it's just me and GammelGuran recorded…
