An email with an interesting experiment

Posted by Roger Häggström on June 29, 2020, 6:21 pm

Got an email with an interesting experiment that I had no reason to do myself. Have been skeptical of string holders in metal and my theory has been that the hard attachment of the string ball is the reason for the less good sound in guitars with such. Have noticed that many modern manufacturers of jazz guitars often have…

Repair of a broken top under a bridge

Posted by Roger Häggström on June 26, 2020, 10:28 pm

One of the things I often come across is that the lid was torn when a stable came loose or re-glued. If it's just small chips, I can glue in small pieces of spruce or fill in pits with warm skin glue mixed with sanding dust in spruce. Repair with super glue is not good…

New method for better neck fitting

Posted by Roger Häggström on June 25, 2020, 8:35 pm

Flagged a bit because I came up with a new safer way to glue the neck. Mainly to avoid having to put a triangular shim under the fretboard on the lid, but also to succeed better with the angle of the neck which so far has been a lottery with many rivets… Have tried the method of three GammelGura in the batch…

This was bought just a few months ago and had to be a side project to the ongoing batch. Always good to have a guitar that does not yet have a buyer. He not much…

Ongoing batch

Posted by Roger Häggström on June 19, 2020, 10:50 pm

Still waiting to get home K&K mics. In the meantime, there is a lot left to do on all the guitars in the batch. All have been repaired, given new ribs and carbon fiber rods as well as shaped raw materials for stables and fingerboards. The situation right now in the pictures below. Constantly trying to find new details that can be done better. Stable plate and…

Improved jig for glueing kerfing

Posted by Roger Häggström on June 19, 2020, 12:35 pm

I basically use the same jig to glue the bottom and kerfing. The difference is the abutments that are forcing when I glue the bottom and straight pieces of wood when I glue kerfing. With the same base plate. The jig for bottom gluing works very well, but the straight pieces of wood did not work as well as I wanted due to…
