Old Gura 109 compares itself

Posted by Roger Häggström on November 28, 2017, 1:25 pm

Andreas Brink has made a video with Old Gura 109, both fun and well played! Old Guran compares himself. Fantastic! He runs with a thick 2 mm plectrum, the guitar will probably do its best in the last song. Thanks especially for the advertising at the end 🙂

GG113, George Bauer model 50A ca 1890

Posted by Roger Häggström on November 27, 2017, 1:17 pm

A very special GammelGura is ready. It has a long history. Farre, one of my apprentices, found this guitar on eBay. I sent it home to him as the dealer of old guitars that I am 🙂 When it came in a package it turned out that it was definitely not in the best condition,…

Article on Norman Wood

Posted by Roger Häggström on November 15, 2017, 10:02 pm

After reading it, I get a little unpleasant vibes that that man was not really a hundred. Some strange theories and especially his conspiracy theory that…

A Levin archtop passed the room

Posted by Roger Häggström on November 11, 2017, 12:10 pm

Visited the room by a nice older couple with a Levin Star from 1949. Played for a few years as an accompaniment in a band by the man, since then it has mostly hung as a decoration. The pickguard had weathered completely and taken with it parts of the nearest bands that were dissolved by the fumes. Solen…

GG112, Levin 1909

Posted by Roger Häggström on November 9, 2017, 10:21 pm

The other unusual Levin parlor guitar in the batch. This time from 1909. One thing I have never seen before on an old Levin parlor is the fingerboard in ebony! Not even in the picture have I seen a similar one. But there are several unusual details. The decoration along the bottom joint in the form of a painted aluminum strip, the extra celluloid binding…

Norman Wood guitar

Posted by Roger Häggström on November 9, 2017, 9:22 pm

I've always had a soft spot for quirky guitar makers. A favorite is Joseph Bohmann who, according to himself, was "The World's Greatest Musical Instrument Maker". I brought in a very odd thing for repair done by Norman Wood in 1977, an English eccentric builder. He also had a sign on the side of the road to his premises that said...
