GG115, Levin 1916

Posted by Roger Häggström on October 29, 2017, 11:46 am

Have a couple of very unusual Levin on the workbench. The first to be completed is a Levin from 1916 with a mahogany bottom and side, model 24 according to the old Youth Star label. Finer inlays in the fretboard and a decorative strip in the joint between the bottom halves are also extra, both fretboard in stables in rosewood as well. Nice bindings around the lid…

Order stop for new Old Gura

Posted by Roger Häggström on October 22, 2017, 12:31 pm

Is taking stock of all the jobs I have taken on and there are not a few. Will update the list of ordered old Gura when I'm done. In any case, it is clear that I have to say no to new GammelGura projects at the moment and instead do what I can to reduce the queue I do…

Tension and vibration

Posted by Roger Häggström on October 17, 2017, 9:47 pm

For the most part, I am very practical, test and see what works. But when you have found something that gives effect, you want to have a theory about why. After tests on my GammelGura, I now know that a hard and rigid attachment of the string ball to an acoustic guitar with a stable with string sticks increases…

GG110, Levin 1940

Posted by Roger Häggström on October 17, 2017, 9:11 pm

A slightly larger and more modern Levin from 1940 is ready. The design of these is very similar to Gibson from the 1930s with its black color and sunburst in the lid. One thing that is not good on these is the bridge, which is partly of the "string through" type (like on a classical guitar) and partly can be...

GG59, PearlGold from the 1950s

Posted by Roger Häggström on October 5, 2017, 12:04 pm

Now it's done. A laggard and a hatred. One of the most cumbersome renovations I have done. I was not ready for it when I took the job three years ago. Since then, I have gained experience and better tools, especially the jig for milling bindings. Still took a few weeks to get…

GG 109, first out is a 1908 Levin

Posted by Roger Häggström on October 2, 2017, 10:14 pm

Received an urgent order from none other than Andreas Brink, the man behind the Levin documentary that was shown on TV not so long ago. Nice people get to go first, so I added it to the ongoing batch. As it was what I call a "half bend", a standard Levin parlor in good condition, it went...

Soderman again

Posted by Roger Häggström on October 1, 2017, 3:34 pm

Thanks to friendly people at "Svenska Gitarr & Lutasällskapet" I received a copy of an article about Gottfrid Söderman from the members' magazine number 2 in 1972. A nice read about an odd original when it comes to guitar building in Sweden. According to the article he started his production in 1917, I myself have seen a lute dated 1924 as the oldest. About…
